Nokia has notified Aussie carriers that the Symbian Anna update will begin rolling out today from 12:30 PM. Nokia owners with E7-00, N8-00 and C7-00 handsets will be the only users to receive this update, but at least some of Nokia’s customers can now benefit from a bit of extra functionality.
What is Symbian Anna?
Symbian Anna is an updated version of Nokia’s Symbian operating system (OS). The update will provide users with a new and more stylised user interface, new icons, a portrait QWERTY keyboard and improved page loading speeds.
Most notably Symbian Anna adds Flash support to the above mentioned devices, meaning that users will now be able to play Flash video content in their browsers. This is has been an extremely popular feature on other OS’s like Android and we expect it to see similar adoption with Symbian.
OviMaps will also be updated, as will the camera interface, photo sharing options and an overall general improvement in performance and speed.
How Do I Update My Symbian Device?
This is a free update and can be obtained in two ways. If you are having difficulty updating you can contact Nokia on 1300 366 733 for further assistance.
Updating OTA (Over The Air):
Press the menu key, then Applications, SW Update, then select the update you wish. If you are updating this way we suggest your phone be fully charge and that you backup any personal data or media files on your handset beforehand.
Updating via Ovi Suite:
Make sure you have the latest version of Nokia Ovi Suite installed on your computer, backup all personal data and media, allow the update to finish before unplugging your handset.
How Much Better is it?
We actually haven’t played around with Symbian Anna, so we can’t say for certain. We expect the update to work with varying efficiency across the three devices, so we’d love to hear from any of our readers who have grabbed the Anna update as to whether or not it improved their Symbian experience and to what degree.
However, at this point there doesn’t seem like much point in not upgrading if you have a Nokia N8, C7 or E7, so get cracking.
